South and City College Birmingham (SCCB) is a general further education provider delivering vocational training to some 25,000 students each year from the inner city wards of Birmingham, over 30% of these are from the 18 – 24 age group.
Many young students lack of skills and competences to effectively compete labour market, it is the Colleges aim is to provide its students both with vocational qualifications and the skills necessary to enter the labour market. The proportion of 18-24 year old’s on Job Seekers allowance in Birmingham is 10.7% compared to the national average of 7.5%, in inner city wards this is in excess of 25%, over 14,000 young people between 18/24 are currently out of work with over 4000 having been in receipt of benefit for over a year.

The College is working with employers to ensure that young people have the skills and competences to fill vacancies as the city’s economy recovers.
